An idea by Joe Watts to start a new running group in the Tunbridge Wells/Southborough area finally came to fruition this evening when 6 runners came together at the Ridgeway playing fields in Southborough for the first of 2 Tuesday evening test sessions. Joe completed his Leadership in Running Fitness course on Saturday 14th May 2016 – a course which is run by Run England (Run England is an England Athletics project) and the group is registered with England Athletics.
The first of 2 test sessions took place at 6.45pm on Tuesday 17th May 2016 with 6 runners split into 3 groups based on ability. Following the warm-up the athletes took off on a 20 minute fartlek style run mixing bursts of fast paced running with easy recovery (walk/jogging) around a football pitch. The 3 groups were given varied lengths for their fast paced sections with the aim that they would re-group at the recovery stage and this seemed to work well.
The next test session takes place next Tuesday evening at the same time & place with the groups official launch on Tuesday 31st May 2016.
